John Stubbs was probably best remembered for his lovely gardens on Center Street. The home was featured in the 1915 Centennial book of Ashland. Later (about 1920) it was the home of Dr. Gilbert Hess of Hess and Clark. After Dr. Hess’s death in the early 1920’s, his widow remained here through the 20s and 30s. The home was razed in the 1940s.
