Old Ashland Needs Your Help The Center Street Historic District Association The Center Street Historic District Association (CSHDA) is a group of homeowners committed to the preservation of the district. The Ashland County Historical Society recently submitted an application to the Ashland Historic Preservation Board requesting permission to demolish one of their properties, the A.N. Myers home at 408 Center Street. This house was built in 1892, and is part of the Center Street historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Save Old Ashland The Ashland County Historical Society purchased the AN Myers house in 1998 and told the public that their funds would restore the house. While renting the house as apartments and leasing to a doctor they put on a new roof, tuck pointed both chimneys, and uncovered and restored the ornamental corbels (only one needed replaced). We learned of their change in plans when they submitted an application for demolition to the city’s Historic Preservation Board. The Historic Preservation Board voted to deny the demolition. But Ashland Ordinance 51-05 states that 60 days after the denial “any public or private body shall either make a bona-fide purchase or lease offer for the building” or the application for the demolition shall be approved by the Board. This time is coming soon! The Center Street Historic District Association is working to convince the Ashland County Historical Society to pursue other options and we have informed them of our willingness to provide assistance. Time is running out. Please contact Rodney Mohr from the Center Street Historic District Association at 419-596-2697 or Kathy Aldrich from the Historic Preservation Board at 419-207-0660 if interested in making contributions towards possible purchase and restoration of the AN Myers home. Center Street is listed on the National Register of Historic Places! The A.N. Myers House can be beautiful again! Remind the Ashland County Historical Society that their mission is to preserve Ashland History! Sign our petition to show that Center Street is valued and should be preserved. Spread the message. Let the Ashland Count Historical Society Board of Trustees know that Ashland treasures their history! AN Myers House in 1915 AN Myers House Now
