Center Street Historic District Association Meeting Minutes for January 22, 2007
The meeting was called to order by Rodney Mohr. Someone asked how many people made a quorum for the association. Kyle O. von Kamp replied seven voting members as stated in our by-laws. The treasurer’s report was given by Gary Courtright. $2,974.68 was in treasury before tonight. Current expenses included: filing fees with the Secretary of State for the Association to be a continuing non-profit organization in Ohio, check book, and Post Office Box. The Association’s post office box number is 194. Joe Mason moved to waive secretary’s report. Ruth Detrow seconded the motion. Motion carried Beth Buchanan moved to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion was seconded by Ann Mohr. Motion carried. President Mohr updated the Association about the litigation between members of the Association and the Ashland County Historical Society. The judge sees the case as a legislative issue, meaning the interpretation of the ordinance. John Good’s brief is due tomorrow. Ron Forstofoel’s brief is due a week from tomorrow. Other comments in the discussion: Rick Wolfe did not take our appeal to the zoning board of appeals which was in the favor of the association. Gary Courtright stated that the ordinance is what is on trial. The Elks is a non-contributing structure in the district and by attempting to change the status of the A.N. Myers home to non-contributing, the Historical Society is stating it is of the same architectural value as the Elks. Does the National Trust for Historic Preservation or Preservation Ohio have a legal defense fund? When is the Ashland County Historical Society’s annual meeting? Should individuals join in order to attend the meeting?
Fundraisers A rummage/community sale will take place May 5, 2007 between 9 and 5. The time was changed as to not conflict with a luncheon the Ashland Symphony is having April 29, 2007 The Historic Ashland Home and Garden Show will take place July 7, 2007, the Saturday of Balloon Fest. The show will hopefully include carriage rides and artisans in homes.
New Business Rodney and Ann Mohr talked with Red Cross. They have little to no money for maintenance of the building. The Old Parsonage is willing to donate paint if the Association would be willing to help with some of the labor. Members seemed receptive. No votes were taken
The next meeting will be held on February 12, 2007 at 7PM at the Grudowski home, 803 Center Street. A motion to adjourn was made by Janice Courtright. The motion was seconded by Joe Mason. Motion carried.
