Center Street Historic District Association Meeting Minutes for April 23, 2009
The meeting was called to order by Andrew Grudowski. Carl Alessandro as painted a streetscape seen for the district to provide some sense of possibility with putting in historic street signs and lamp posts. Carl unveiled his Carl’s painting which will be used as the cover for this year’s Historic Ashland Home and Garden Tour
The minutes were read by Kyle O. von Kamp A motion to accept was made by Rodney Mohr and the motion was 2nd by Ruth Detrow. Motion carried.
Severn Green reported $90 deposited into our account and he would be paying for the Victorian Street signs.
Arlene Grudowski announced that there were two applications from Megan Gisclon, Sarah Sanders for the first Center Street Historic District Association Scholarship. The committee selected Megan Gisclon as the winner. Andrew Grudowski read the winning essay. $500 check will it be sent directly to her. Ruth Detrow suggested that the essay be put in the home tour program book. Arlene Grudowski explained Ashland High School’s counselor’s thankfulness for starting a scholarship. There was discussion as to whether to have a more formal presentation of the award to Megan Gisclon. Kyle O. von Kamp brought up about a potential of a home tour ticket kick off in combination.
Update on Victorian Street Signs The sample sign was shown to members. Andrew Grudowski talked to Jerry Mack who has said he will have to talk to the traffic committee. He is putting together a packet with pertinent information for the traffic committee. The Committee meets in April. Andrew Grudowski emailed the mayor about the Association paying for installation as well as the signs. Ruth will talk to the Mayor tomorrow if he is in and is excited to go to council with the sign with potential of getting the paper to cover it Joe Mason moved to go forth and put the signs up as soon as possible including installation if needed. The motion was seconded by Bruce Kramer. Motion carried. Tim Schaffer reminded everyone to make sure it is well publicized that the city is not paying for the signs and to make sure they are secure so they are not stolen
Dottie Tennis made a request of four t-shirts and four tickets to the home tour for the Ashland Symphony’s lunch raffle.
Kyle O. von Kamp gave an update on the Historic Ashland Home and Garden Tour and reminded homeowners that he needs to know ASAP if your home will be on the tour.
A discussion of the members ensued about whether to pay for advertising on HistoricProperties.com By helping any homeowner sell their home for the best price, The district will increase property values. Rodney Mohr moved to that the Association should pay to put homes for sale on www.HistoricProperties.com with permission of the homeowner. The motion was seconded by Sarah Rowan. Motion Carried. Kyle O. von Kamp will contact Stoops for the 300 block homes
New Business Rodney Mohr explained a fundraiser of the Ashland County Historic Preservation Alliance. They will be selling deck of cards with historic homes and buildings on each card. Buy a card for $200 to $60 and put your house on or as an organization. Bruce moved to pay $60 for a card with the AN Myers Home on it. Arlene Grudowski seconded. The motion carried. Individual member are encouraged to participate as well.
Kyle O. von Kamp submitted pictures of the homes in the Center Street Historic District in Ashland on Google Earth photographs. A Street View program including Center Street is also now available with Google Earth
